SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1998--
InfoGenesis, a leading provider of hospitality information technology,
Thursday announced that Vail Resorts Inc. [NYSE:MTN - news] has joined the company's
Partner Program and will install its Revelation point of sale (POS) at
Vail, the most popular ski resort in North America.
Vail Resorts is an information technology leader and uses
technology to enhance service levels and convenience. An integrated
destination resort company, Vail operates many diverse businesses in
the operation of the ski area, including: hospitality, dining, ski &
snowboard school, retail and equipment rental. The company is committed
to enhancing the range and quality of services offered to its guests.
Vail Resorts chose Revelation from InfoGenesis for its open
systems architecture and scalable design. Revelation is a
client/server POS solution that combines the performance of the
Microsoft(R) Windows NT operating system and the Microsoft(R) SQL
Server database management system for powerful information management
and business analysis.
``Revelation was chosen on the strength and flexibility of the
product, as well as on the quality and high caliber of the people in
the InfoGenesis organization,'' said Mike Hibbs, director of
information systems at Vail Resorts. ``The underlying success of the
project is based on the partnership we have established.''
The nationwide direct sales and support orientation of
InfoGenesis and the company's strong partnership with IBM were also
deciding factors in Vail's decision. Vail Resorts recently joined the
InfoGenesis Partner Program, which brings together both customer and
InfoGenesis resources to focus on the development and implementation
of new technology.
One of the biggest challenges of this project is the scope and
size. Vail operates twenty-four on-mountain and base area restaurants
spread across 4,600 acres of skiable terrain. A single server running
Windows NT Server on an Ethernet network will manage all POS
transaction processing for the entire Revelation system.
The server will reside at Vail Resorts' corporate headquarters in
Avon, Colo., located 10 miles from Vail Mountain.
``Revelation was designed with the ability to operate off-line if
necessary. This feature is critical for Vail where adverse weather
conditions and rugged terrain could result in network difficulties,''
said Scott Martiny, vice president, sales and marketing at InfoGenesis.
``Combined with IBM's high performance POS terminals, Revelation
gives Vail the assurance that their critical business functions will
not be lost,'' added Martiny.
Vail Resorts provides guests the convenience of a ``cashless''
vacation, where guests are issued an identification card linked to
their Vail account and/or credit card. Revelation will scan the
identification card to verify charging privileges and post charges to
the guest's account, as well as to the PEAKS at Vail Resorts loyalty
program.
Vail intends to use Revelation for resort-wide guest charging,
allowing guests to charge purchases from any of the company's four
resorts.
InfoGenesis will provide Vail with all system implementation,
training, professional services, and on-going 24-hours-per-day,
seven-days-a-week support.
The InfoGenesis Revelation installation at Vail is underway and,
when completed in October 1998, will include 53 IBM 4695 touch screen
POS terminals, managing all food and beverage operations, ranging from
the top-rated Game Creek Club to affordable family dining and
trailside express-food outlets.
