Fujitsu General America Names Richardson Electronics Authorized Distributor of Plasmavision 42 MonitorsAgreement Covering U.S. Markets Further Bolsters Distributor's Growing Monitor Portfolio
FAIRFIELD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1998--Fujitsu General
America, Inc. today announced electronic component specialty
distributor Richardson Electronics (NASDAQ:RELL - news) as an authorized
distributor for the company's Plasmavision(TM) 42 large-format plasma
monitors in the United States.
The originator of the large screen plasma display, Fujitsu
General America recently debuted its second-generation Plasmavision
product at a price 20 percent lower than the company's previous model.
The Plasmavision 42 (model no. PDS-4203) offers a new high-contrast
screen that delivers a major improvement in contrast levels, for
performance comparable to any display technology currently available.
Richardson Electronics is offering the product from stock at a
suggested retail price of $10,999. Richardson is also offering the
PDS-4204, which offers all the same features as the PDS-4203 but
includes a PC card viewer. The suggested retail price of the PDS-4204
is $11,999.
``We are excited to have Richardson Electronics join us in
distributing our revolutionary product,'' said Michael Gleason, Fujitsu
General America's National Sales and Marketing Manager. ``They will
help bring this product to the Midwest and beyond. We are confident
that this will be a great partnership.''
Richardson will target the Plasmavision 42 to resellers, dealers
and integrators in the financial, audio/visual, medical and industrial
markets. With its incredible image quality and unique form, the
Plasmavision 42 monitor adds impact for business communications, home
entertainment and public display. The display can be used in the
boardroom to enhance business presentations. With its wide viewing
angle and visibility in brightly lit environments, the Plasmavision 42
also offers new opportunities for advertising, tradeshows, retail
displays, kiosks, dynamic signage and much, much more.
``Fujitsu General America is the market leader in plasma
technology and the addition of their displays complements our
expanding line of specialty graphics products,'' said Robert Heise,
Business Unit Manager for Richardson Electronics' Display Products
Group.
In the past year, Richardson has signed major distribution
agreements with monitor manufacturers Image Systems, Philips/FIMI,
NEC, Data Ray, Clinton and Barco. Historically targeting third-party
maintenance organizations with cathode ray tubes for replacement in
monochrome and color monitors, Richardson began adding monitor lines
as prices for these products dropped. Now it is targeting hospitals,
document imaging facilities and financial institutions with its
growing monitor capabilities.
