POMPANO BEACH, Fla., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- CareView Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Visual Data Corporation (NASDAQ:VDAT) today announced that they have successfully introduced their new CareView System in the South Florida and New York City/New Jersey metro markets. The CareView System consists of company-owned computer "kiosks" located in the Case Management (Discharge Planning) departments of major hospitals, as well as an open Internet site (www.careview.com), and allows hospital Case Managers as well as patients and their families to access a wealth of information on available Long-Term Care facilities in their area.

In addition to a comprehensive database of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities in all 50 states, subscribing Long-Term Care facilities are able to showcase their facilities with full-motion, narrated video tours of the site. Other features available from subscribing facilities include a real- time bed availability database, a full criteria-based search program with managed care information, photos, and more.

To date, the CareView System has been installed and is in use at 11 hospitals, and includes 15 subscribing facilities. Hospital installations include Mt. Sinai Medical Center and Miami Heart Institute in Miami, Elmhurst Hospital in New York City, and Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. Subscribing facilities include Miami Jewish Home and Hospital, Fair Havens Center in Miami Springs, and Fort Tryon Nursing Center in Manhattan.

When complete, the network will include 30-40 hospitals in each area, and hundreds of subscribing facilities. The company expects to begin offering the CareView System to hospitals and Long-Term Care facilities in several more markets, including Tampa and Orlando, Florida before the end of the year.

"The early reaction from hospital Case Managers has been extremely positive," commented Jeff Hill, CareView General Manager. "Not only does the system save them time and effort in locating an appropriate Long-Term Care facility for their patients, but it allows the patients and their families to actually 'see' the facility via the video tours before ever leaving the hospital. We anticipate that this will help reduce the time it takes to evaluate and select a Nursing Home or Assisted Living Facility, which will help shorten the length of stay in the hospital, thereby reducing the cost to treat Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care patients."

"Subscribing facilities are able to showcase and market their properties at the exact time and place a patient and family are faced with this difficult decision, in the hospital. It allows them to target market their properties with a precision never before possible," Mr. Hill noted. He also noted that the Company is already working on several new enhancements to the system, including the transmission of referral medical data from hospital to nursing home via a secure server with high level encryption.

Visual Data Corporation, founded in 1993, specializes in the production, marketing and distribution of full-motion visual information on various media, including digital video discs, the Internet, other on-line services and, eventually, interactive television. The Company develops full-motion video libraries containing short concise vignettes relating to various topics, including travel, education, business, health, fitness, medicine and consumer products.

This press release contains forward-looking statements which involve numerous risks and uncertainties. Actual results, performance or achievements could differ materially from those anticipated in such forward-looking statements as a result of certain factors, including those set forth in the Company's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
