Technology from MicroTouch

Touchscreen technology is set to become the standard in customer-user interface in the retail sector, thanks to ease-of-use, reliability, durability and its slick, "high-tech" image.

MicroTouch Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:MTSI), the market leading touchscreen technology specialist, and the Retail Systems Division of ICL, a leading supplier of IT systems and services, have joined together in a move which will consolidate their leadership in this area. The companies announced today a world-wide strategic partnership which will enable MicroTouch to ramp up its share of the retail sector. Under the terms of the agreement, both companies will promote the benefits of innovative touchscreen technology-based solutions within the retail environment.

"As retail organisations seek to deliver better customer service and differentiate themselves from competitors, touchscreen technology is becoming the preferred delivery route," said Bob Senior, MicroTouch's European Vice-President. "Technology advances, such as our touch LCD flat panels, enable us to offer retailers greater value and an affordable, innovative and stylish way to interact with customers.

"Touchscreen technology is especially suited for use in the public domain because it's resistant to day-to-day contaminants such as dirt and grease. Also, it's easy to use, which cuts down significantly on training costs, and it's reliable. ICL's Retail Systems Division is one of the world's leading solutions providers in the retail field. Therefore, the combination of market leading technology and retail expertise will deliver the best possible solutions to customers," Senior said.

The Retail Systems division provides systems and support services for a broad range of point-of-sale, back-office and enterprise-wide applications. The company is one of the top three suppliers of retail systems and services worldwide, and has more than 600,000 point-of-sale installations.

"MicroTouch's commitment is to provide the best-of-breed touchscreen solutions to its customers. This is complementary to our own marketing strategy," said Kalvinder Rai, European Procurement Manager, Retail Systems Division, ICL. "We have worked together successfully on several projects already, and by working even more closely together, we at ICL expect to strengthen our competitive edge. We can offer solutions to customers, confident in the knowledge that we can rely on MicroTouch's European infrastructure to offer technical knowledge, 24-hour technical support, extended warranties and dedicated engineering support, which is essential to us."
