Research In Motion to supply wireless modems for

DataWave Electronic Merchandisers

WATERLOO, ON, Nov. 13 /CNW/ - Research In Motion (TSE: RIM) today announced it has signed a $1.3 million (CDN) agreement to supply its advanced OEM radio modems to DataWave Systems (NASDAQ: DWVSF). Scheduled for delivery over the next 12 months, the modems will be used in DataWave's wireless prepaid electronic merchandising systems. This is the first supply agreement between the two companies.

DataWave will incorporate RIM's high-performance radio modems in its proprietary system that uses wireless communications to manage intelligent merchandising kiosks. Enabling the sale of prepaid long distance telecommunications services, DataWave's Electronic Merchandisers' form part of a wide area network that is designed to continuously monitor and track sales and service data.

Because of a 24-hour wireless connection to a central computer system that allows for remote monitoring, Datawave's Intelligent' machines generate a significant increase in revenue,'' said DataWave President and CEO, Clive Barwin. The RIM 900 radio-modem is a high-performance RF transceiver designed for system integration by original equipment manufacturers. Operating in the 900 MHz frequency range, the RIM 900 is compatible with Mobitex wide-area wireless data communications networks. Nationwide Mobitex networks are operated by BellSouth Wireless Data in the United States and Cantel AT&T in Canada.
