04:15 p.m Nov 16, 1998 Eastern

FLINT, Mich., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Buick Motor Division today opened its fourth Flagship dealership -- Miller Buick -- in Matteson, Ill. The retail facility is owned by long-time automotive dealer David Miller.

The Flagship store is one of 150 exclusive dealerships Buick plans to open in prime shopping areas across the country over the next few years. This store represents Buick's first new, ground-up Flagship dealership in the country. In addition, the Miller Buick Flagship dealership is the first of nine dealerships to open in Miller's new Matteson Auto Mall.

Offering customers a uniquely exclusive shopping experience, Miller Buick has a park-like setting featuring inviting exterior canopies and awnings. A carillon clock tower stands near the store's entrance and houses an information kiosk that customers can use to shop 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Customers stepping into the Flagship store's foyer, known as a hospitalidor, are greeted by a welcomer who offers them refreshments as they leisurely stroll through the dealership's automotive displays, information center and library. The store also features a community room for business and public events. Oversized lifestyle graphics enhance the store's friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

As in all the Buick Flagship stores, the sales approach at Miller Buick is low-key with customer consultants available to answer questions and discuss their vehicle needs at the customer's initiative.

"We're excited to be partnering with our dealers to provide our customers with a one-of-a-kind shopping experience," said Buick General Manager Robert E. Coletta. "Through our Flagship stores, we're creating comfortable, non-threatening retail environments where customers are free to gather information, browse and purchase cars."

Buick's Flagship stores evolved from research that shows customers are demanding far more in a shopping experience from retail and service outlets. Studies show that customers will opt for an automotive shopping environment that combines high quality and convenience with the "high touch" amenities traditionally provided by other retailers.

"Miller Buick will provide customers with a car-buying experience unlike any they've ever had in this area," said Miller. "We've reinvented the dealership concept from the ground up to include advanced technology, new processes and employee training and retention programs, all designed to provide customers with a top-notch retail experience."

"Over the last three years, the corporation has worked closely with dealers to study and pilot innovative retail strategies," said Larry K. Hice, Buick's general sales and service manager. "We've done our homework to create a premium retail experience that attracts and delights customers ... an experience that demonstrates we're in tune with their wants and needs."

Buick opened its first and second Flagship stores, Zimbrick Buick in Madison, Wis., and Tom Kelley Buick in Fort Wayne, Ind., in November of 1997. The division's third Flagship store, Buick of Latham, in Latham, N.Y. (near Albany), opened earlier this month.

Buick's Flagship stores are key to the corporation's goal of exceeding customer expectations well into the 21st century. The premium retail concept supports Buick's long-standing commitment to build both a special kind of car and a special kind of customer relationship. SOURCE Buick Motor Division
