Circuit City Enters Second Stage of Nationwide Deployment of Wyse Winterm Windows-based Terminals

Retail Giant Circuit City Purchases Additional Winterm Windows-Based Terminals For In-Store Kiosks And Service Centers Nationwide

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1999-- Wyse® Technology, the recognized worldwide brand leader in thin-client computing, has made an additional sale of Wyse Winterm(TM) Windows®-based terminals to Circuit City, the largest consumer electronics and appliance retailer in the nation. The recent sale brings the total number of Winterm Windows-based terminals sold to Circuit City to 1500 units. The Wyse Windows-based terminals are used in special order kiosks in each of Circuit City's Superstores, as well as in service centers. Circuit City's expanded adoption of Wyse thin clients demonstrates the growing maturity of thin-client computing as a means of addressing a variety of enterprise and specialty applications.

Within the kiosks, the Winterm models 2310SE and 2315SE Windows-Based terminals are utilized to give Circuit City access to a vast selection of merchandise available from four major computer vendors, all from a central server location. Through an easy-to-use touchscreen interface and Wyse's centrally managed 2310SE Windows-based terminals, customers can configure the exact computer that best fits their needs. Additionally, the Wyse Winterm Windows-based terminals are used within service centers to give Circuit City service technicians access to a custom designed system for processing and tracking repaired merchandise.

``We searched for a cost-effective and high-performance solution that would allow us to offer our customers high levels of customer service through our build-to-order kiosk stations and service center applications. We found that Wyse's Winterm Windows-based terminals provided a flexible solution for our new architecture,'' said Dennis Bowman, senior vice president and chief information officer for Circuit City. ``We are pleased to be working with Wyse.''

WINTERM - THE IDEAL CORPORATE SOLUTION

The Winterm 2000 Series models are ideal for corporations and other commercial customers seeking centralized management through a low-cost, high performance thin-client solution attached to a multi-user Windows NT application server like Citrix® MetaFrame® and Microsoft's® Windows NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition. Wyse's Winterm Windows-based terminals provide optimal network manageability and simple access to Windows, Java, legacy and browser-based applications. Organizations deploying Wyse's Windows-based terminals benefit from centralized desktop management, reduced total cost of ownership, true rapid application deployment and high security.

``We are very pleased to have won such a hotly contested contract by such a high-profile organization such as Circuit City,'' said Jeff McNaught, Wyse's vice president of marketing. ``The unique format and nationwide deployment of this installation to deliver PC-like performance and functionality to an environment that is not well suited for a high-maintenance PC is an excellent environment to display the many advantages of thin-client computing in general, and Wyse Winterm Windows-based terminals in particular.''
