* IDC PREDICTS GROWTH FOR WIRELESS ASPS, VENDOR NOT CONVINCED
If the ASP model is still considered relatively young, then wireless
ASPs must be considered newborns. Despite the relative infancy of
this segment of the ASP industry, however, International Data Corp.
(Framingham, Mass.) paints it a bright future. ResQNet.com (New York,
a wireless ISV, has closely monitored the ASP and wireless ASP
markets, but has chosen to stay away for the time being.

* HP, INTEL OFFER FREE TESTING FACILITY AND SERVICES TO ASPS
Hewlett-Packard Company (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Intel Corporation
(Santa Clara, Calif.) have launched a no-cost solution center for
service providers to conduct testing prior to launch. For ASPs and
those pursuing the model, the initiative represents an opportunity to
sidestep the costs associated with replication.

* CONSORTIUM EDUCATES END USERS FOR ASP'S BENEFIT
The ASP Industry Consortium (Wakefield, Mass.), an international
advocacy group formed to promote the application service provider
industry by sponsoring research and articulating the strategic and
measurable benefits of the evolving ASP marketplace, has announced the
availability of a new guide that will help consumers understand the
basics of service level agreement. In doing so, the consortium hopes
to establish a higher level of trust among users for ASPs.

* SYNERGYLINK ANNOUNCES NEW HOSTED INTEGRATION SERVICE
SynergyLink, Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.), an enterprise application
integration software provider, has announced a new service that allows
ASP clients to design, test and deploy application integration,
real-time and over the Internet - Hosted Application Integration
Service (HAIS). HAIS is the first middleware to be offered as an
e-service available over the Internet, according to SynergyLink.

* XCERT'S SENTRY 4.5 ADDRESSES A NEED FOR SECURITY
XCert (Walnut Creek, Calif.), a provider of software products for
securing business transactions and communications over the Internet,
has announced the impending release of Sentry 4.5 public key
infrastructure (PKI). The software is designed to serve as a
transaction security platform for ASP and application infrastructure
provider (AIP) hosted applications.

The phenomenal growth of the Internet in the latter part of the 1990s
will lead to a fundamental shift in the information technology industry
in this decade -- the delivery of software as a service instead of a
packaged product. No questions linger as to whether application hosting
will catch on, but questions abound as to how the service will be
