COMTROL LAUNCHES DEVICEMASTER PRIMO(tm)
Price/Performance Breakthrough for Single Device Serial-to-Ethernet Connectivity
MINNEAPOLIS - October 25, 2001 … Comtrol Corporation, a leading provider of serial device connectivity solutions, announced that it is now shipping DeviceMaster Primo Serial Port Server (SPS), a new one-port solution for connecting any serial device to an Ethernet network. Primo is the first model released under Comtrol's new DeviceMaster™ Serial Port Server line of non-programmable device connectivity products. Future SPS models will offer Ethernet connectivity for 2-6432 ports per device server. Company officials believe that Primo offers the best price/performance solution in the industry with an estimated street price near $200.
Like other DeviceMaster models, Primo enables serial device connectivity to 10/100Base-T Ethernet networks, offers an RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 selectable serial interface, supports TCP sockets and serial tunneling capabilities, and includes host server software, which makes the network-connected serial ports transparently accessible and fully compatible with existing Microsoft® Windows® and Linux application software. With the release of Primo, integrators and system builders can now choose from more than a dozen different models of programmable and non-programmable device servers that connect from 1-64 serial devices to a single Ethernet connection-making the Comtrol offering the most extensive in the industry today.
"The next generation of serial device connectivity takes another giant step forward with the release of DeviceMaster Primo," said Lee Stagni president and COO of Comtrol. "The breadth of our solution for network-connected, remotely accessible and manageable device servers is now unmatched in the industry. Since we first invented the serial multiport concentrator for the personal computer in the early 1980s, the company has been the innovator in this segment. And that tradition continues today with our DeviceMaster product line."
DeviceMaster Primo enables one-to-one serial device Ethernet connectivity for applications such as network management, industrial automation, warehouse control, building security, point-of-sale, console port management, hospital automation, self-serve banking, oil and gas transport, or virtually any other automation effort where remote access and management of serial devices may
