Touchscreen Systems Ltd (TSL) have supplied 11 touchscreen LCD Chassis monitors to The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London for Search Station, a new multimedia visitor attraction. Search Station is a database containing over 1300 of the museum's highlights, including paintings, prints and historic photographs and has been introduced to make the museum's collections more accessible to the public.
The National Maritime Museum has a collection of over 2,000,000 items and is the largest in the world, but only a small portion of the collection can be on display at any one time. Search Station enables visitors to view parts of the collection that would otherwise be inaccessible. Designed and built for the museum by Cognitive Applications Ltd., the system employs Elo IntelliTouch technology, for an accurate touch response. Users access the database by touching the on-screen prompts, searching according to the themes of Trade and Empire, Nelson and Passengers, or by topic, category, title or keywords in the Navigate' section.
Superior image clarity provided by the IntelliTouch surface-wave touchscreen is ideal for applications like Search Station where the touchscreen is being used to access highly visual information such as video clips, detailed maps and paintings. Equally important for public access applications is durability: with IntelliTouch, scratches and abrasions have no effect upon the performance of the touchscreen and intelligent digital mapping "learns around" contamination.
