Seiko Instruments Micro Printer Division Announces Alliance with Digital Pioneer To Provide Automated Parking Meter Kiosks for Parking Industry
TORRANCE, Calif., April 13, 2001 - Seiko Instruments USA Inc. Micro Printer Division has announced an alliance with Digital Pioneer Technologies Corporation, a British Columbia based systems integrator, to market automated kiosks to the parking industry. Aimed at the estimated $500 billion worldwide parking industry which includes parking garages and real estate, the automated kiosks offer significant benefits to cities and management companies which utilize parking fees for revenue. The proprietary technology has shown to increase parking revenue by 15 percent to 30 percent following implementation.
"Our alliance with Digital Pioneer offers Seiko Instruments a unique opportunity to penetrate a new niche market," said Bob Falco, Director of Marketing for Seiko Instruments Micro Printer Division. "And with the obvious advantages the system offers not only to owners of parking systems, but also the convenience to users, we expect the systems to continue their upward spiral of sales to this industry."
The automated kiosk parking system includes a powder coated steel kiosk featuring a Seiko KBM-80 thermal receipt printer, Digital Pioneer's own proprietary firmware, and Windows-based software, and Palm Pilot-based software for generating financial reports. The built-in printer mechanism allows printing of up to 3,000 thermal three-inch-wide parking receipts per paper roll and utilizes special thermal paper that resists fading and curling when exposed to harsh sunlight.
"The Seiko KBM-80 thermal printer was selected for our parking meter systems because it was designed specifically for kiosk applications with special consideration given to size, durability, function and easy paper replacement," said Michael Rodger, Director of Marketing & Sales for Digital Pioneer. "We were also impressed with the KBM-80's advanced capabilities and expect to make full use of these features with product enhancements to our current parking system planned for the near future."
In addition to ticket printing with time, date, barcode, receipt and encrypted ticket number information, the automated parking kiosk system allows capability for printing customized receipts with logos, coupons and messages to meet individual requirements.
The system also offers owners a number of management benefits including the ability to track revenue from customer payment through to bank deposit as well as parking flow, assist with annual parking revenues estimates, and provide printed reports summarizing totals for coin and bill deposits, credit card transactions and parking tickets purchased.
The KBM Series printer measures 6.9" x 9.2" x 9.1" (W X D H) and offers both horizontal or vertical mounting for optimum flexibility. Available in three configurations with varying print widths, all three KBM models provide auto cutter, automatic and manual paper loading options, high resolution of 8 dots/mm, and a print speed of 50mm second.
