Postal Kiosks

USPS' local self-service kiosks reach nearly 150,000 transactions

In less than six months, the U.S. Postal Service's automated postal centers in the St. Louis area have rung up nearly 150,000 transactions.

The 26 self-service kiosks around the metro area use a customer's credit or debit card, and allow customers to buy stamps; weigh, calculate and purchase postage; send items using various types of service; look up ZIP codes; get receipts; and buy delivery confirmation service.

Burton St. John, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis, said the popularity of the new kiosks has exceeded expectations. Some locations, particularly in west St. Louis County and Olivette, have a lot of traffic, with the Olivette location ranking among the top 20 in the nation sometimes, St. John said.

St. John said the kiosks allow customers to take care of simple transactions quickly and allow its workers to help customers with more complicated transactions. He said the area could get more of the kiosks in the future as long as the Post Office continues seeing a high level of interest.
