Blowout Sale on Secure iPad Kiosks from BeyondKiosks.com Help Celebrate the Holidays! -- KNOXVILLE, Md., Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --

KNOXVILLE, Md., Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Beyond Kiosks, a subsidiary of Kiosk Group, Inc. has announced special pricing for the holiday season. Their Exquisite Freestanding iPad Kiosks are now just $549, Countertop iPad Kiosks are $469, and Wall iPad Kiosks are just $269. This special sales event will run until January 5, 2011. Further discounts are available for quantities of ten or more.

Kiosk Group president Mike James, a 31-year veteran of the multimedia and kiosk industry, commented, "With some of the specials the retailers are having with iPads this season, you can have a high-end, professionally-made kiosk for well under a thousand dollars. This is totally unprecedented in the kiosk industry."

The iPad Kiosks were created by Mike James and design consultant Jer Schweickart specifically around the iPad's distinct feature set:
The iPad Kiosk enclosures feature a radio-transparent, heavy-duty plastic head unit. All Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G radio frequencies are totally unimpeded. The pedestal, brackets and base sections are constructed out of powdercoated cold-rolled steel.

The iPad kiosks from BeyondKiosks.com are available in free-standing, countertop and wall versions.

The front bezel restricts the use of the iPad's Home button, so users cannot escape from the iPad kiosk application.

Technicians have easy access to the tablet's Power, Volume Controls and Home Screen without kiosk disassembly.

The iPads are secure in their kiosk enclosures held in place with special security screens. In addition, all three units can be bolted to the surface for additional security
All kiosks are ADA compliant.

The iPad kiosks can be seen at www.BeyondKiosks.com. Jer Schweickart's work can be seen at www.jschweickart.com. For more information, contact Mike James at 1-888-569-5467 x801 or [email protected].

New gloves that work with touchscreens

New gloves from Boulder company allow you to work with common touchscreen devices using capacitive technology.

Agloves give full 10-finger gloved touchscreen functionality - Image 4 of 4

With capacitive the technology of choice on the majority of touchscreen devices hitting the market, people have been coming up with all kinds of interesting ways to interact with their devices when the winter chill sets in and gloves become a necessity. Many South Koreans apparently turned to using sausages as a stylus but if you’d prefer not to be hassled by dogs as you type a text there are less meat product-based solutions, such as the North Face Etip gloves. Now there’s another glove-based solution in the form of Agloves, which provide even greater touchscreen friendly surface area for your hands.

Whereas the Etip gloves feature a conductive material known as X-Static fabric on the tips of the thumb and index finger, the Agloves are made with silver coated nylon to make the entire glove conductive. With silver boasting particularly high electrical conductivity it allows the Agloves to better transfer the skin’s bioelectrical charge through the gloves to the screen.

The Boulder-based company behind the Agloves says that since the whole glove is knitted with its unique silver yarn they are able to work even if the wearer’s fingertips lose conductivity, when they are too cold or dry for example. In such cases the rest of the hand is able to pick up the slack and allow the bioelectricity to travel from other areas on the hand, through the glove to the fingertips to maintain a connection.

Also, because the Agloves provide full 10-finger functionality, users are able to type using full QWERTY onscreen keyboards like that found on the iPad, or do four-finger swipes. Oh, and they should also keep your hands warm.

The Agloves are available now for US$17.99 a pair.

Touchscreen News - Multi-touch & tutorial site from 3M

News from 3M on multi-touch and also launch of new "education" site touchtopics.com which is to explain all various touchscreen technologies be they from 3M or Elo or whomever. Upcoming conferences are in California.

3M Presents “What is Multi-touch” Overview at 2009 Display Conferences
3M Launches Touch Industry Reference Site to Help Establish Touch Nomenclature

Methuen, Mass. – August 26, 2009 – Multi-touch interactivity may be the touch industry’s most discussed topic and possibly the most misunderstood when single finger gestures and 10 resolvable touch points are grouped together and called “multi-touch”. For software developers writing applications along this 1 to 10 finger touch spectrum and system integrators matching their requirements with existing touch solutions, understanding the multi-touch capabilities of popular technologies is important. To help clarify this touch nomenclature, 3M Touch Systems will be presenting on “Multi-touch” at two upcoming display conferences (DisplayBank U.S. FPD Conference 2009, August 20, 2009, Santa Clara, CA and DisplaySearch Emerging Displays Technology Conference, September 2, 2009, San Jose, CA) and launching a touch industry reference web site at www.touchtopics.com.

“With 25 years of touch industry experience and as a manufacturer who offers touch technologies ranging from single finger touch to 10 resolvable touch points, 3M Touch Systems is in a unique position to help standardize our industry’s nomenclature,” said Scott Hagermoser, business manager, 3M Touch Systems. “We’ve seen first hand how a simple misunderstanding of ‘what is multi-touch’ can create buying confusion and lead customers to select the wrong touch technology for their solution.”

Touchscreen News - Multi-touch developer kit from 3M

3M Multi-touch Developer Kit Wows SID Display Week Attendees - 10-finger Independent Tracking Sets New Standard for Touch Interfaces

Methuen, MA – June 10, 2009 – The 3M Multi-touch Developer Kit was introduced to the touch industry at the SID Display Week 2009 Conference in San Antonio last week to the welcome praise of display industry experts, the apparent awe of conference attendees and the reluctant respect of touch competitors, and essentially redefined what “multi-touch” really can be.

Where 2- to 4-finger touch capabilities and simple pinch-and-expand gestures once defined sophisticated multi-touch interactivity, 3M’s multi-touch technology designed with fast and accurate 10-finger touch now sets the new “true multi-touch” standard. Software developers using this new interactive tool may create previously unattainable interaction with their applications that might include enhanced operating system desktops, 4 or more players gaming, or may finally touch-enable everyday 10-finger activities like QWERTY keyboard typing or piano playing.

The 3M Multi-touch Developer Kit also received extensive television coverage from Fox 29 KABB News (San Antonio affiliate), which singled out this new technology in a roving-reporter, show-floor feature and then with an in-depth, in-studio, follow-up segment during their News First morning technology report.

The 3M Multi-Touch Developer Kit will be shown to the audio-visual (AV) industry at InfoComm 2009 in Orlando, Fla., June 17-19.
