Company Press ReleaseREI to Open Redmond Town Center Store Oct. 9
KENT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1998--Recreational
Equipment Inc. (REI) will officially open the doors to its new
store in the Redmond Town Center on Friday, Oct. 9 at 8 a.m.
Store Manager Arleen Hiuga said that REI's Eastside members will
be pleased with the results. ``We have a 14-year history on the
Eastside, and our members have long been asking for a bigger store,''
said Hiuga. The new location is not only larger, but includes
interactive store features and a broader product assortment.
Retail Director Jerry Chevassus says that the new 35,000-square-
foot store ``is the best of the Seattle Flagship.'' Interactive
features include water filtration and stove comparison stations, a
footwear test trail and a 38-foot glass-enclosed climbing pinnacle.
Climbers can choose from nine routes to the top, including a
stair-step ``mountaineering route'' for beginning climbers.
Unique to the Redmond store will be a 9-foot-tall suspended
sculpture called Pedaling Man, which celebrates Redmond's unofficial
status as the cycling capital of the Northwest. Designed by local
artist Peter Reiquam, Pedaling Man will simulate the speed and
excitement of a criterion race from a spectator's point of vew.
The new store will carry quality REI label and national brand
equipment, apparel, and footwear for the outdoor activities of
climbing, camping, cycling, wintersports and paddling, and offer
full-service bike and ski repair. Two interactive Internet kiosks
will provide shoppers with access to in-depth product information and
gear lists, and a meeting room will be available for activity clinics
and meetings.
The new REI Redmond store is located at 166th Ave. N.E. and
N.E. 76th St in the Redmond Town Center, and will replace REI's
present Bellevue store located at 15400 N.E. 20th in Sherwood
Center.
REI, a national retailer of outdoor gear and clothing, operates
51 retail stores in 21 states; an international mail order service;
two online stores (REI.com and REI-Outlet.com); and REI Adventures,
and adventure travel company.
