Million Contract
(Business Wire; 11/19/98)
IRVINE, CALIF. (Nov. 19) BUSINESS WIRE -Nov. 19, 1998--Javelin Systems Inc.
(Nasdaq NM:JVLN), a designer of open system touchscreen point-of-sale (POS)
computers and provider of POS end-to-end system solutions, Thursday announced
that Chicago-based White Hen Pantry, a franchisor of convenience food stores
specializing in fresh deli sandwiches, soups, salads and coffee, has selected
Javelin Systems and its wholly-owned subsidiary, CCI Group, to provide an end-
to-end technology solution for its 300+ stores located in the greater Chicago
and Boston areas.
The $5.0 million contract calls for an immediate roll-out of product and
services with completion targeted for September 1999. Product roll-out has
begun.
"This is our first entry into a major convenience store chain," said Javelin
Systems President and Chief Executive Officer Richard P. Stack. "While this
sector of the retail industry offers tremendous potential, it is a highly
competitive arena for POS computer suppliers. I believe our win in this market
is based on the Company's ability to provide innovative open system POS
computers and an end-to-end solution to the management of White Hen Pantry."
"The first step in our technology upgrade was the selection of an extensive
suite of software that met our point of sale and back office business
application needs," said White Hen Pantry's Senior Director of Systems
Solutions James J. Walz. "Our second step was to select a business partner that
could supply open system POS computers and provide the necessary experience to
deploy, install and support a comprehensive solution in all 300 of our
convenience stores. After a lengthy evaluation of major POS vendors we selected
Javelin Systems and their subsidiary, CCI Group. The Javelin Wedge POS computer
offered the best price:performance available in the industry and with CCI's
reputation and experience we were confident of their ability to provide a total
systems solution quickly, efficiently and on time."
According to CCI Technology Group President and Chief Executive Officer Robert
D. Nichols, a typical store installation will consist of multiple Javelin Wedge
Pentium-based POS computers configured with an integrated Ethernet controller,
SymbolTech scanners, Epson printers, and WeighTronix scales. The systems will
be networked to a back-office PC server communicating seamlessly, via a wide
area network, with White Hen Pantry's headquarters in Chicago. CCI will be
managing the entire project along with providing systems integration and
installation as well as on-going technical services and support -- an end-to-
end solution designed to coordinate with the user-training program from White
Hen Pantry.
Javelin Systems designs, manufactures and markets open system touchscreen point-
of-sale ("POS") computers and provides POS systems integration services
primarily for the foodservice and retail industries. POS systems incorporating
the company's products enable restaurants and retailers to capture, analyze,
disseminate and use information throughout an enterprise from the point of sale
to the in-store "back office" to the enterprise's headquarters. These POS
systems provide transaction processing, in-store operating controls, and timely
information used to manage inventory and costs, analyze sales data and
customize products and services. The company's product family of network-ready
computers integrates substantially all of the functionality of standard desktop
personal computers into durable, small footprint touchscreen workstations that
run on industry standard open operating systems. Visit Javelin at www.jvln.com.
