Company Press Release
METHUEN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 1999--MicroTouch Systems, Inc. today introduced new ChassisTouch flat-panel kiosk monitors with its innovative ToughTouch sensor.
ToughTouch is a capacitive touchscreen with an additional layer of tempered glass laminated to the back to provide shatterproof durability, without loss of touch performance. MicroTouch's ChassisTouch flat-panel monitors for kiosks are designed specifically for easy integration into kiosk or ATM enclosures where space is valuable and speed and reliability of operation are important.
ToughTouch brings extraordinary durability to public-access and self-service touchscreen applications in which the display is vulnerable to damage. These include ATMs, vending machines, gaming machines, gas pumps, industrial and information kiosks.
``As touchscreen technology continues to gain wider adoption into harsh environments and unattended applications, our customers are seeking high levels of protection against damage,'' said Alice Moran, MicroTouch group product marketing manager. ``Adding ToughTouch to our ChassisTouch flat-panel monitor line for kiosks directly responds to a growing use of LCD monitors in public-access applications. As a virtually shatterproof solution, ToughTouch gives engineers and designers the market's best combination of outstanding touch functionality and unmatched durability.''
ToughTouch and ChassisTouch Features and Benefits
ToughTouch is based on MicroTouch's industry-leading capacitive sensor, ClearTek, which enables ToughTouch applications to withstand contaminants, chemicals, grease, dirt, or water without interrupting operation.
Like the standard ClearTek sensor, ToughTouch accurately recognizes fast, light touches - as light as two ounces in less than three milliseconds with better than 99 percent accuracy - for fast, reliable operation. ToughTouch's durability does not diminish clarity or light transmission. Other key features and benefits include:
MicroTouch's ChassisTouch flat-panel kiosk monitors are encased in rugged steel and guaranteed to retain the same physical dimensions for three years. This means OEMs and systems integrators can avoid costly modifications or redesigns of enclosures to accommodate constant changes in the dimensions of plastic bezel monitors.
ChassisTouch flat-panel displays are based on a thin-film transistor, active-matrix (TFT-AM) LCD with full-screen resolution of up to 1024 x 768 lines.
Pricing and Availability
ToughTouch is available worldwide for 12.1- and 15-inch ChassisTouch flat-panel monitors. A single unit list price for the 12.1-inch is $1,675, and $2,089 for the 15-inch.
