PORT AUTHORITY IS `READY TO DEAL' WITH VENDORS ON SUBWAY KIOSKS
(PR Newswire; 02/02/99)
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Port Authority today announced that it is
embarking on a new Joint Development Program as it will soon seek proposals
from entrepreneurs, retailers and business owners interested in placing carts
or kiosks within the Downtown Subway Stations.
"This is the first phase of our Joint Development Program in which we want to
encourage businesses to be located at many light rail station sites, park and
ride lots and other areas throughout Port Authority's system," said Paul
Skoutelas, Port Authority's Chief Executive Officer. "This program will add
customer conveniences and amenities, as well as create partnerships with
private vendors that can generate new revenues for Port Authority."
Effective today, Port Authority will begin seeking proposals from vendors who
are interested in establishing a cart or kiosk in the following subway
locations: two sites in the Steel Plaza Station totaling 1,902 square feet; a
181-square-foot site in the Wood Street Station; and a 436-square-foot site at
Gateway Station. Port Authority is particularly looking for a mix of retail
options that would specifically appeal to its customers, as well as persons in
nearby office buildings.
"No determination has been made about what uses are most appropriate for the
station sites," said Mr. Skoutelas. "However, we encourage respondents to be
creative about how they propose to use the kiosk or cart space, as we are
looking for ideas that would make Port Authority's subway stations more
attractive and convenient for our customers."
Interested entrepreneurs may pick up a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) packet
about the subway station program at Port Authority's Procurement Department at
its Manchester offices (2235 Beaver Avenue) beginning today. Persons may also
call 412-237-7180 to receive a packet through the mail. Responses must be
prepared in accordance with the RFQ requirements and delivered to the
Procurement Office by no later than 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 2, 1999.
An information meeting and subway station tour is scheduled for Wednesday,
February 10, 1999 at 10 a.m. on the 33rd floor of the USX Tower in room #33C-
12, USX Tower, 600 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. Specific questions from
interested vendors can be answered by calling Ms. Brenda Fink of Port Authority
at 412-237-7180.
"This is an excellent opportunity for creative business persons to participate
in this exciting new joint development initiative with Port Authority," said
Mr. Skoutelas. SOURCE Port Authority of Allegheny County
