BORDERS TO OPEN IN VICTOR

ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Borders(R) Books and Music announced 
today it will open a new 23,000-square-foot store in Victor at the intersection 
of Rte. 96 and Turk Hill Rd.  The store will be the second Borders to enter the 
Rochester market and is scheduled to open this summer. Borders Group, Inc. 
plans to open 45-50 superstores in the U.S. as well as five new international 
locations during 1999.

The new Borders will feature a vast selection of about 200,000 book, music, 
periodical and video titles.  Just 50 percent of the Borders title base is 
common to all stores.  The other half is customized to each location by 
knowledgeable buyers and Borders sophisticated computerized inventory system. 
Selection is custom-tailored to reflect regional and local interests, 
demographics and customer profiles.

"Our incredible depth of selection gives our customers the opportunity to 
explore the work of authors such as Milan Kundera and Lorraine Johnson- 
Coleman, along with the music of Duke Ellington and Will Ackerman," said 
Marilyn Slankard, vice president of marketing.  "There is nothing quite like 
the ambiance of a Borders store.  It brings a stimulating atmosphere to the 
community, as well as a relaxing, comfortable place for book and music lovers 
to indulge themselves."

Cafe Espresso(SM) is also an integral part of the pleasing Borders environment. 
 In each new Borders store, customers will have the chance to relax in the cafe 
and choose from a variety of exotic coffees, teas and beverages from around the 
world, not to mention the menu of gourmet desserts and light lunch items.

Borders not only provides the ultimate experience for book, music and coffee 
lovers, but the retailer also fosters a deep commitment to its communities.  In 
fact, each store hosts over 30 complimentary, community events monthly 
including lectures, author signings, children's activities, neighborhood 
workshops and "Benefit Days" to support local charities.  Last year, Borders 
hosted over 90,000 in-store events, featuring national authors, musicians and 
celebrities, as well as local talents in each community. Borders helped many
