MAR 23, 1999, M2 Communications - ICL, the IT services company has
acquired SARCOM, the German IT services company to extend the company's
geographic presence in Germany. The move strengthens ICL's position as
a leader in desktop outsourcing and support systems in Europe following
recent expansion in Italy.
Headquartered in Saarland, south-west Germany, SARCOM provides field
service and on-site system support to some of Germany's leading
companies, including Mercedes (part of the DaimlerChrysler group) and
Compaq. Sales for the year ending 1998, were 12.6 million DM (GBP 4.2
million). The company employs over 100 staff with Microsoft accredited
skills.
The acquisition of SARCOM follows recent expansion of ICL's
operational services business in Italy from its base in Milan. During
1998 revenues for the business grew by over 50% which coincided with
the recruitment of over 50 new staff.
David Palk, managing director of ICL's Operational Services division,
said: "We are experiencing strong organic growth in our desktop
outsourcing and systems support markets. This acquisition Will enable
us to replicate better the success we have had in the UK and enhance
our ability and geographic reach to provide multinational customers
with superior levels of service. Added to our existing operations in
Germany, this will give us with the necessary critical mass, providing
employees, new skills, over 700 contracts and opportunities to leverage
our other service offerings."
