Cunningham modernises government
Cabinet Office Minister Jack Cunningham has unveiled a White Paper on modernising government in the Commons. The proposals include allowing people to get information and advice through kiosks at supermarkets and other public places.
People will also be able to submit tax returns via the Internet and conduct official business through digital television.
Dr Cunningham said within three years people would be able electronically to look for work and be matched with job vacancies, submit VAT and tax returns, and access healthcare advice.
"One-stop shops" will provide similar services for those who lack the latest technology.
