NCD Thin Clients To Support Elo Touchmonitors Natively; Touch Input Seen As An Important Capability For Healthcare, Retail and Kiosk Applications
Wednesday, April 28, 1999 8:26 AM EST
CHICAGO (April 28) BW HEALTHWIRE -April 28, 1999--Network Computing
Devices, Inc., (Nasdaq:NCDI), the leading supplier of thin client
hardware and software, will now support Elo TouchSystems' CRT and LCD
touchmonitors, in order to provide thin client solution developers with
the leading touch technology.
"NCD is focused on providing intuitive, manageable and scaleable
information access for a wide range of industry applications.
Interactive touchmonitors are a critical requirement for many customers
today," said Rosanna Fay, Director of Partner Marketing for NCD.
"NCD's customers in healthcare and retail have specifically requested
the ability to use Elo TouchSystems' technology with our award winning
NCD ThinSTAR CE Windows-based Terminals."
According to Frost & Sullivan's latest Kiosk Industry analysis, "85% of
all kiosks use touchscreen displays." Point-of-information (POI), and
Point-of-purchase (POP) solutions are taking the niche kiosk solution
concept into mainstream adoption with next generation ATMs, ticketing
stations, hotel concierge stations, airline check in, and internet
payphones.
Hospitals and pharmacies are also looking at this alternative to reduce
labor intensive repetitive tasks and improve overall customer service.
As an intuitive transaction interface that improves customer service
delivery, touchmonitors are the leading input choice today. Hardware
management is easier and more cost effective when remote servers,
rather than fat clients, supply content and application functionality.
The small footprint of NCD's thin client, coupled with the simplicity
of a device that has no moving parts, makes thin clients the ideal
platform for touch solution scenarios. NCD's CE-based ThinSTAR and the
Elo touchmonitor product line provide today's solution architects and
end-users with a manageable and capable presentation layer platform.
"Elo TouchSystems is pleased to offer its CRT and LCD touchmonitors to
NCD customers and channel partners who want a CE solution," said
Annemarie Feely, an Elo TouchSystems Market Manager.
"Our interactive touchmonitors add tremendous capability to a thin
client solution. They are available today in a desktop, panel mount and
kiosk form factor. The latest NCD CE kernel includes Elo's CE Driver,
and uses the Microsoft RDP protocol to handle the presentation layer
protocol. Now a thin client can support all of Elo's touchmonitors,
right out of the box."
NCD will be showing the latest 15-inch desktop LCD Elo touchmonitor
with NCD ThinSTAR Windows-based terminals in their exhibit at the
Healthcare Informatics Expo and Conference, in Chicago, April 28th and
29th, booth No. 515. Other Elo touchmonitors can also be seen at the
Healthcare Informatics Expo in the Elo TouchSystems booth No. 906.
