Radiant Systems' Technology Assists with Record Breaking Star Wars Advanced Ticket Sales!
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1999--
Quality of products and services shines during the most stressful day ever in the U.S. movie industry.
At 3 PM EDT on Wednesday, May 12, advanced tickets went on sale for the opening of Star Wars, resulting in a record setting day for advanced ticket purchases. The anticipation for Star Wars, along with the advanced ticketing buying frenzy, further adds to the mystique surrounding George Lucas' latest blockbuster. Across the country, movie-going patrons lined up at the theatre box offices, called in over the phone and connected over the Internet to purchase tickets in huge numbers. Radiant Systems' ticketing solutions supported its client base in exemplary fashion, resulting in record breaking advanced ticket sales in nearly all client locations.
Radiant Systems provides enterprise wide technology solutions for the entertainment industry. The solutions include box office ticketing stations, concession POS, the servers and back office management software which manages the ticket inventory for all types of remote ticketing, and multimedia kiosks at the theatres. The Radiant Systems' kiosks allow for consumer activated ticket purchases, concession purchases and will-call pick up from all remote ticketing services, interactive voice response (IVR) phone ticketing systems and internet ticketing solutions.
Chris Lybeer, Vice President and Managing Director at Radiant Systems, said, "We saw astronomical volumes yesterday, and our systems performed extremely well. Our clients were thoroughly impressed with the performance, reliability and accessibility of our transaction processing systems. We have been planning for this event for months. The entire Radiant Systems' team worked through every detail to ensure that our systems, as well as our support services were fully prepared, and the results were evident."
Eric Hinkle, Radiant Systems' President and COO, added, "We have built our strong reputation on the excellence of our solutions, and the dedication of our people. We are pleased that we were able to demonstrate these capabilities in the face of record setting volumes, and provide the support our clients and their patrons deserve."
As an example of the record volumes on Wednesday, Radiant's IVR solutions in premium megaplex sites averaged over $20,000 in advanced ticket sales for Star Wars between 3PM and midnight, which is more than 100 times normal volumes. IVR's with as many as 64 phone lines stayed fully loaded, but continued to process transactions with no degradation in performance. In total, theatres with Radiant Systems' technology sold more than $5,000,000 of advanced tickets in just the first day of sales.
Jim Fagerstrom, Vice President of Information Technology for Loews Cineplex Entertainment, said, "We knew this would be a challenging time for our theatres. As a key technology partner, Radiant's performance was exceptional. Their systems handled the record breaking volume smoothly, and their services team handled our support requests in a timely fashion."
Steve Broudy, CIO of Mann Theatres, said, "At the famous Mann Chinese Theatre, our IVR systems were incredibly productive for us yesterday. We purchased Radiant's solution because of its ease of use for patrons, and reliable technology platform. The Star Wars opening certainly supported our strategic decision in this area."
