Epson, a leading point-of-sale solutions provider, Monday debuted its high-performance Intelligent Register (IR) at the Retail Systems Expo in Chicago.

More than 30 percent brighter than its predecessor, the Intelligent Register's new SVGA touchscreen offers superior quality while improving customer throughput with its increased video capability and brightness.

Ideal for specialty retailers and convenience stores, the Intelligent Register combines a powerful Pentium-class processor, a thermal or impact printer module, a magnetic stripe reader, and a color LCD touchscreen into one of the smallest, most fully integrated footprints on the market.

"The new SVGA touchscreen with improved video capability is ideal for running today's advanced software packages," said Bud Weist, director of marketing and sales, Epson.

"Most software packages require the increased resolution of the IR's touchscreen, and both sales associates and customers benefit from the brighter screens making amount totals easily identifiable in bright-light situations like convenience stores with large windows."

The Intelligent Register benefits small retailers, allowing them to maximize valuable counter space with a small footprint of only 9.8 inches (W) x 17.7 inches (D). Retailers can now utilize important counter space for additional merchandise or point-of-purchase displays to accommodate last-minute, impulse purchases.

The Intelligent Register also supports an Intel high-performance processor to facilitate fast, efficient checkout and support a variety of DOS- and Windows-based applications used for POS and other retail application programs.

Other features of the Intelligent Register include two USB interface ports and the ability to support two cash drawers. The Intelligent Register's design provides easy access for fast repairs and upgrades, reducing overall service and ownership costs.

Replacement parts and accessories, including a 28-key numeric keypad, are available from authorized Epson resellers. Epson's Intelligent Register is available immediately through Epson-authorized resellers. The IR carries a one-year limited warranty and includes lifetime customer support and technical assistance.

Epson offers an extensive array of award-winning image-capture and image-output products for the consumer, business and graphic-arts markets. The company is also a leading supplier of value-added point-of-sale (POS) solutions for the retail market.

Founded in 1975, Epson America Inc. is the U.S. affiliate of Japan-based Seiko Epson Corp., a global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality technology products that meet customer demands for increased functionality, compactness, systems integration and energy efficiency.
