InterQuest Launches High-Speed Internet Service for Hotels
(PR Newswire; 06/02/98)
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire/ InterQuest Communications Inc.,
Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) and ATCOM/INFO Inc. today announced that
InterQuest Communications has become the first distributor of ATCOM/INFO's
IPORT(TM) solution. IPORT, a high-speed Internet access solution based on the
Microsoft(R) BackOffice(R) family, enables business travelers to easily access
e-mail, the World Wide Web and corporate networks from guest rooms and meeting
rooms with a laptop computer equipped with an Ethernet card.
According to Stan Julien, hospitality industry marketing manager at
Microsoft, "It's great to see InterQuest expand their services into the hotel
industry. IPORT is a distinctly superior way of meeting the data-communications
needs of business travelers, and Microsoft expects to see literally hundreds of
hotels across the U.S. signing up for the service this year. InterQuest will be
there to help meet the demand."
"This solution is equivalent to telephone jacks in homes. A PC or laptop
with an Ethernet card can plug into an IPORT jack and be automatically
configured and connected to the Internet just as any telephone can plug into a
wall jack," said Peter Van Horne, president and chief technical officer at
ATCOM/INFO. "InterQuest is very familiar with the infrastructure and service
issues. We believe they will be an excellent partner in providing IPORT
service."
Information on the IPORT trial locations, an IPORT white paper and
executive summary are available at the Microsoft hospitality Web site,
