KING PRODUCTS INC - Public Access Technology to be deployed in India by MTNL

Toronto, Ontario, Sep. 08, 1999 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- King Products Inc. (KINK) announced that it has been selected by India's largest Telco, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam LTD (MTNL) to deliver a network of Interactive Multimedia Payphones in New Delhi and Numbai, India. This deployment begins in October of 1999 and includes the KingNet Internet Software Package, providing management of network content, including advertising and online goods and services, e-commerce payment, pay telephony, network management and remote diagnostics.

The flat panel, touchscreen payphones are based on King's standard mPhone and Plynth series product line, and have an integrated handset and credit card based services operations, allowing for e-commerce transactions and Internet access through high speed ISDN lines. The units will provide pay telephony and public access to Internet on-line services and advertising. The KingNet software allows the multimedia content of each terminal to be carefully targeted at the customer location and local demographic and for measuring market response in real time.

MTNL has aggressive plans to deploy Internet Terminals and to promote Internet access opportunities in India, where Internet access from home is limited.

Rajagopalan, CMD, MTNL, recently stated during an interview published in the May 1999 edition of Business Newsweek that "... Another need that urgently needs to be catered to is the creation of Internet Kiosks. Within the next couple of months, I would have Internet Kiosks in both metros (New Delhi and Numbai) and look forward to customers paying their bills through this..."
