SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 1999--JP Systems and PocketScience have announced a strategic partnership for product development that will give handheld devices such as Palm(R) Connected Organizers access to Internet e-mail using any type of telephone in the world.
PocketScience, developer of affordable mobile e-mail solutions, is licensing JP Systems' One-Touch Mail(tm) for developing the technology. One-Touch is a powerful, full-featured, easy-to-use e-mail program designed for the line of 3Com/Palm Computing Connected Organizers(tm) that allows the user to retrieve e-mails from any Internet service provider while away from home or the office.
The solution will utilize JP Systems' and PocketScience's PocketMail(tm) technology to enable simple mobile e-mail when held up to any phone. Device users can rely on digital landline network services and mobile phones for sending and receiving e-mail.
The joint development will introduce the technology of "modem-less" e-mail for the first time to the Palm Computing(R) platform handheld computing devices. PocketScience's entered the PDA market by developing similar technology for Sharp and JVC products.
"JP Systems is impressed with the innovation that sets PocketScience apart from other developers of solutions for the Palm device," said Dayakar Puskoor, chief executive officer of JP Systems. "This partnership extends JP Systems' interest in giving every handheld computer user the mobile capabilities of the new millennium."
"The Palm user community has a great deal of respect for One-Touch Mail. We are excited to compliment our PocketMail technology with e-mail software familiar to so many," said Ed Esber, chief executive officer of PocketScience, "The end result makes for a formidable e-mail appliance."
