Coles Myer today said it will open its first internet retailing kiosk in K-mart via its subsidiary Harris Technology.

Coles Myer today said it will open its first internet retailing kiosk in K-mart via its subsidiary Harris Technology.

Coles Myer will also launch a website for Liquorland's Vintage Cellars brand which has been developed by Harris Technology.

Vintage Cellars will also be positioned as a preferred wine retailer on a third party Internet site - Winepros Ltd - Coles Myer said.

Dennis Eck, chief executive of Coles Myer said that there were several features of Harris Technology which the company found attractive when it acquired the internet retailer.

"It was one of the few companies already making a trading profit from its Internet retailing. It has unique software. It has skills as an Internet retailer, store retailer and catalogue business," he said.

Mr Eck said the company would further CML's intenet retailing agenda.

"We realised we had the opportunity to add Harris Technology kiosks into a number of our existing stores.

"The first such unit, which opened yesterday at Kmart Broadway (Sydney) commences this process," he said.

A second kiosk is planned for East Burwood in Victoria next week.

Mr Eck said the Liquorland site would be available before Christmas.

"The site, in its preliminary form, will provide information, order-taking and fulfilment facilities on a selected range of merchandise with a more comprehensive offer available in the first quarter of next year," he said.

Mr Eck said this would be mirrored on the Winepros site which is epxected to go live during the first quarter of 2000. "Our involvement with Winepros will see Vintage Cellars become the preferred Australian wine retailer on, what will be, Winepros' informational internet site," he said.

Mr Eck said Winepros had lodged a prospectus last Thursday with ASIC and after the proposed float of Winepros Coles Myer will have a 10 per cent shareholding and a seat on its board.
