WAYNE, Pa., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- USA Technologies Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: USTT - , a leader in unattended point of sale 'POS' payment systems that give consumers convenient, self-serve credit card-activated access to goods, services and information, has received Notice of Allowance from the US Patent and Trademark Office for the technology underlying its networked payment and control systems for the vending industry. The patent, entitled ``System and Method for Networking and Controlling Vending Machines,'' extends the lead of USA Technologies in unattended, network controlled credit card point of sale systems -- and furthermore -- will potentially impact the $35 billion vending industry, which should realize increased sales and revenues by offering consumers more convenience through accepting credit cards as a form of payment in vending. The industry also stands to benefit significantly in additional ways, such as improving service levels and operating efficiencies by gaining remote access to machine operation and inventory status via networking.

``The Allowance of this patent is one of twenty-five others issued or pending for the technology related to USA's payment and control systems, and includes broad claims related to credit card vending, batch processing of credit cards, and collecting of inventory and machine function information via telemetry. Users of USA Technologies' networked payment system can cost effectively process credit card transactions on purchases as low as one dollar,'' said Brock Kolls, Sr. VP of R&D for USA.

Currently, USA's most widely utilized payment system, TransAct(TM), is a bundled solution comprised of USA's payment device, associated software and a turnkey processing/financial services network -- USALive.net. TransAct is already in use at the heart of USA Technologies' Business Express®. Business Express® is a 24 hour unattended, credit card activated business center with 1400 terminals installed in approximately 400 hotels, and a number of libraries and retail locations in 48 states and Canada. This unique payment system currently conducts millions of unattended credit card transactions annually -- and is the first of its type to utilize embedded systems in host equipment to combine individual POS terminals into large groups of remotely controlled, credit card activated locations together via a network.

``We look-forward to working with partners and licensees in the vending industry. USA has strategically targeted the vending industry as one that can benefit enormously by leveraging USA's proven technology in its tens of millions of vending locations worldwide,'' said Stephen P. Herbert, President and Chief Operating Officer of USA. Specifically, in the US, consumers will potentially be able to utilize their preferred method of payment, credit and bank cards, (over 1 billion in circulation in the U.S.) to make purchases for the first time in vending locations which utilize USA's technology. Further, vending machine owner/operators will be able to leverage USA's embedded point of sale capability and associated network services to maximize operating returns and increase service levels by gaining remote access to machine function and inventory levels -- all resulting in a rise in revenues. USA is in talks with numerous organizations regarding the use of its technology for application in vending -- and currently has it in beta test in this regard.

With patented technology and a rapidly expanding customer base and product line, USA Technologies is the leader in providing consumers with convenient, unattended credit card-activated access to goods, services and information while on-the-go.
