Interactive Kiosk Growth in Scandinavia
by Kevin O'Keeffe [email protected]
On a recent one week trip to Sweden, Finland and Denmark, NetShift's BDM Kevin O'Keeffe was delighted to find that whilst these countries (Sweden & Finland) entry into this new market of Net/Web kiosk use is slightly later than others their ability to catch up and over take is significant. Kevin met and talked with some 50 different Scandinavian companies, at business seminars and presentations held at the respective British Embassies. It became very apparent from this that the vertical market diversification of kiosk use is to be as dramatic as seen on other continents. E-commerce, Banking and Finance showed up as the 'hot' subjects with portal deployment as another major front runner for interactive kiosk use.
In Denmark the situation was much more advanced, through the foresight of such companies as First Impression A/S, as for over a year, farms of kiosks have been out and running in very high foot-fall areas. One such site visited was the main Copenhagen Travel Centre with kiosks getting upto 500 users per day. Kevin commented 'It does not take a genius to work out the fast Return on Investment for these kiosks'. Again the kiosk sites and applications were as diverse as ever covering other markets such as; Tourism, Retail, Airports and e-commerce.
What was really outstanding about the trip, was the natural embracing of the whole internet/web way of working and life. This is very quickly going to be developed by these countries, whose technical skills, in particular with mobile phone technology, have emerged in the past to become world leaders.
