Siemens is the first provider to demonstrate SAP R/3 under the Linux operating system R/3 support part of major Siemens Computer Systems drive to become a Top Three Linux vendor in Europe by end of 1999 Hanover - At the same time as SAP announced an R/3 version for the Linux operating system, Siemens Computer Systems demonstrated this new solution running on its Intel-based Primergy servers at CeBIT '99. Primergy is already a leading server platform for SAP R/3, and by supporting R/3 on Linux, Siemens Computer Systems is extending its leadership position in the ERP market. At CeBIT '99 Siemens Computer Systems demonstrated a preliminary version of SAP R/3 for Linux on a Primergy Model 870 server. Here Siemens is underlining its ability to adopt innovative developments quickly and with great flexibility and provide solutions that are suitable for the market. Primergy servers are an ideal platform for running applications from SAP under Linux. These development activities comply with Open Source rules, which promote the unrestricted spread of new technologies and innovations. Although it was only officially at CeBIT '99, some customers have already decided to go for SAP R/3 on Linux servers from Siemens Computer Systems. The installation of SAP R/3 on Linux is for us the logical extension of the strategy to use stable, secure and low maintenance computer centre technology on a Linux basis. Siemens is the right partner for us, with the ability to offer an innovative solution with R/3 and Linux both quickly and reliably."
