NCR Defines Future With Ground-Breaking ATM

PersonaS 86's scalable technology is leading the Self Service industry into a new era of services and revenue generation

MIAMI, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- NCR Corporation, the world leader in automated teller machines (ATMs), today launched the PersonaS 86, the first truly scalable web ATM with two dispensing units.

The PersonaS 86 provides ATM deployers with new levels of flexibility. Financial institutions can choose whether to reduce replenishment costs by doubling their cash dispensing capability or use the second dispenser to create additional revenue through dispensing other media such as phonecards and travel tickets.

Placing two cash dispensers within one ATM cuts replenishment needs by up to 50 percent. Alternatively, the second dispenser will allow new non-cash services to be delivered without affecting normal cash supply levels.

In addition, the PersonaS 86 supplies full functionality in the space previously taken by a simple cash dispenser. ``The PersonaS 86 is a completely scalable full-function ATM with a cash dispenser footprint,'' comments Bob Tramontano, vice president for NCR's Financial Solutions Group.

``Our customers can choose to offer only cash now and then decide in the future to offer additional functions, such as deposit and document printing services - without having to change machines or complete costly re-building work. With this scalability alongside the second dispenser option, the PersonaS 86 offers customers unparalleled flexibility with the assurance that their investment is totally protected.''

Fully web compatible, the PersonaS 86 has superlative quality graphics and improves consumer access through a large 12.1-inch (14-inch viewable) flat- panel SGVA screen - with a touch-screen version available for interior locations such as malls and ATM vestibules. Inch-for-inch it provides the largest display area in the smallest hole in the wall. This means bank customers can easily connect to web services, for example, to pay bills and buy online.

And PersonaS 86 gives Self Service the edge over other web channels because purchases such as event and lottery tickets can be instantly fulfilled through its high quality graphic printers. Financial institutions can also increase revenues by running their own and third party promotions, tailored to individuals' needs. Migration to these new service levels of web functionality is powered by NCR's APTRA standards-based software solutions that enable change at the bank's own pace.

Existing ATMs can be replaced without rebuilding work since the PersonaS 86 fits exactly into NCR 5X85 full-function ATM and smaller 5X84 cash dispenser holes. This latest member of the PersonaS family will also fit the hole in the wall of other vendors' full-function ATMs. As services increase, migration to web based services can be made without additional hardware upgrades.

The PersonaS 86 is available in selected countries now and worldwide from February 2000, with the second dispenser option to follow later in 2000.
