Irish company brings e-Government to the Public

August 22nd, For immediate release

Irish technology company ICE Tech has developed and launched it's new e-Government Public Services Information Kiosk which makes all Government and local authority departments and online services instantly accessible to the public.

The Co. Kildare based company's online and intranet solution enables public access to a variety of Government services such as County Council and individual Government Department websites, the Citizens Information Database, Revenue On-Line Services and the FAS Job Bank.

The company manufactures state of the art touch screen Public Service Information Kiosks which can be installed in the public offices of councils, Government departments and other public buildings. The Kiosks allow visitors to search for, view and print out their required information within minutes.

ICE Tech, which was formed in 1998 and led by brothers Ivan and Patrick O'Connor, is Ireland's leading multi-media, information and Internet Kiosk developer.

ICE Tech managing director, Ivan O'Connor, says the e-Government initiative is a very exciting one. "We are now providing what people have been talking about for years - easy access to valuable Government information via a user friendly Public Services Information Kiosk. We are also providing a totally Irish developed, manufactured and supported solution to the task in hand."

The user-friendly system is already in place at Meath County Council's 'One Stop Shop' in Dunshaughlin and similar Public Service Information Kiosks will be offered to other local authorities nationwide.

As well as accessing a wide range of online e-Government services, visitors to Meath County Council can now also search for, view and print copies of certain planning documents via the custom built ICE Tech Public Services Kiosk.

"Internet enabled information Kiosks have been identified as a key component in Meath County Council's commitment to using information technology to improve it's customer service to its citizens and to make e-Government services accessible to the full community," says Mr Tommy Kavanagh, IT Manager, Meath County Council.

Other ICE Tech products include Information Kiosks, 'pay per use' Internet terminals, Web-Phones and Multimedia Display Kiosks.

ICE Tech's client list includes ITG Payphones, Dunnes Stores, Tesco, Superquinn, Galway University Hospital and also Tallaght, Beaumont and St James' Hospitals, Meath County Council, Newgrange Visitors Centre and EP Mooney.

  • ICE Tech is an Irish company with Kiosk design, manufacturing and software development facilities at Clane Business Park in Co. Kildare. The company was founded by Ivan O'Connor in 1998.

In April 2000, ICE Tech successfully secured 200,000 in funding through a BES placement. A French and Russian speaker, Ivan spent nearly 5 years working in New York, San Francisco and Moscow before returning to Ireland in late 1996.

The idea for ICE Tech developed after Ivan saw the first generation of Internet Kiosks while travelling internationally on business. He identified the huge potential of the self-service Internet, Information, Multimedia Kiosk market and founded ICE Tech Limited in November 1998.

Ivan's brother Patrick O'Connor is Technical director at ICE Tech. He is responsible for driving and managing the company's ongoing software and hardware product development cycles.
