Fleet Expands Manhattan Presence With Flagship Location in Grand Central Terminal; Integrated Investment Access Center to Offer Banking and Brokerage Services

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2001--Responding to growing consumer and small business demand for innovative methods to access banking and investment accounts, Fleet today announced the opening of an Investment Access Center in the historic MetLife Building at Grand Central Terminal. The 2,500 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility features consumer, small business and brokerage sales and service specialists who will provide a complement of banking, lending, and investment services, including investments through Quick & Reilly, Fleet's wholly owned, nationwide brokerage firm.

As part of the facility's innovative technology, customers can access their accounts and conduct transactions using one of six online investment and banking stations. These specially designed kiosks provide fast access to Fleet's online offerings, including HomeLink with Quick & Reilly for personal banking and investing, and Fleet OfficeLink for small business banking. To log on and access accounts, customers simply enter a passcode or swipe a Fleet ATM card. To further ensure customer privacy and security, the kiosks come equipped with pressure-sensitive mats that automatically log off when the customer departs. "The new Fleet Investment Access Center is a physical extension of the successful marriage Fleet has seen with HomeLink and Quick & Reilly," noted Robert Hedges, Jr., Managing Director of Retail Distribution for Fleet. "Through this new storefront, Fleet is delivering new technology to consumer and small businesses, enabling them to manage their financial lives with more convenience and control."

"In an effort to grow our Manhattan franchise, we targeted this site as a prime location for the estimated 2.3 million people, many of them commuters, who work in Manhattan each day," said Bradford H. Warner, Vice Chairman, Consumer Business Group.

"This approach allows us to serve our customers not only in their home communities, but where they work as well." Fleet has a presence in a number of commuter hubs and cultural sites, including Port Authority, Penn Station, Times Square, Staten Island Ferry, Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Yankee Stadium, and the Bronx Zoo.

OfficeLink, Fleet's online product for small business owners, will also be accessible through the online investment and banking stations. OfficeLink provides small business customers with access to real-time Fleet account information, bill payment service, fund transfers, customized balance alerts and more. "We are thrilled to offer our Small Business customers the opportunity to conduct both their business and personal banking in one, convenient location " said Norman DeLuca, Managing Director of Small Business Services at Fleet. "This approach underscores Fleet's ongoing commitment to provide a quality and integrated customer experience."

As part of the official opening, Fleet and Quick & Reilly have launched a Grand Opening Sweepstakes. The marketing campaign promotes the new storefront as delivering customers the Power of 2 --- convenient access to both banking and investing from one convenient location. The six-week sweepstakes program encourages customers to experience the new Fleet Investment Access Center and enter to win a $10,000 Quick & Reilly account grand prize or other prizes including a Palm Pilot IIIx. The sweepstakes begins September 10 and ends on October 8. "We believe our integrated banking and brokerage service really sets us apart," said Donald E. Froude, President & CEO of Quick & Reilly, Inc. "New Yorkers have come to recognize Fleet as the fastest-growing, most service-oriented financial institution in the market, and we are unique in combining one of the nation's best regarded brokerage firms with one of the nation's best regarded financial institutions."

The facility, which also features 6 full-service ATMs (1 business depository), 6 banking/brokerage sales and service representatives, and 8 multimedia screens displaying Fleet and Quick & Reilly special offers and CNBC programming, is located on the retail level of the MetLife Building above Grand Central Terminal and operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
